I started this today seeing as my mudbox demo is running out of time I wanted to use it in a project and see how useful it was, anyway I havent done any Warhammer 40k artwork for a bit so its gonna be a Chaos Spacemarine (as usual)
I will be building the armour etc so those stretchy bits will be covered up, so far sculpted in mudbox from a basic head, render test in C4D, Quick texture test using Bodypaint (on a 240,000 poly (not tri's)) but it still needs some more texture work as a lot of detail has been lost in the "busy-ness" of the texture..more updtes coming soon..

really cool stuff so far! you can also try using a retopologise program, like topogun or something (i believe blender can do that too, but i don't understand anything about blender...) and in that way make a lowpoly model, on which you can apply a normal map. I hope you finish this guy before you run out of time!

The first pic is a screengrab from mudbox but after that its all Cinema 4D/Bodypaint, plus I've done some more work on it since...
paling: Theres no need to retopologize, mudbox keeps the lower poly versions of your sculpt that you start from and outputs normal/displacement maps that you can apply those to the lowpoly version later...this is purely for an image so polycounts are not really an issue anyways _________________

Seems like a effective program.
Here's a tutorial describing how to use the program, great result IMHO. http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorial/Ma ... over/20125 _________________ http://white-line.org/

Little update, some more work on the torso/shoulder pads but just a basic colour on there so far, gotta get bodypainting but figured I better get all the sculpting done first

Pretty awesome as usual. You should animate the other marine and this one fighting to the death. That would be great.

It wasn't really a request, animating that would be pretty superfluous but cool none the less.

Awsome, sick but nice. I like it although living eyes on armor aren't my kind of style. You must be some man to learn how to make this with a totally new program is so short a time.

Holy Moly!!!
Thats fantastic Love the design Just one question. Did you texture it in Mud Box like you can in Z Brush or did you Texture it else where Stea_Demon _________________ Maya is my drug of choice. I'm practically meshed up 24/7 |

No mudbox is just a sculpter, I also used Zbrush for the last few parts and I still think I prefer ZBrush over mudbox...and mudbox's $650 pricetag doesnt really help its case
I UV'd the head and painted it in bodypaint (in Cinema 4D) but the rest are just textures cubic mapped and applied to each part in Cinema 4D and I used 3 omni lights for lighting, one with hard shadows!! _________________

Thats some nice detailed model! but i didnt like the lighting too.
I must try one of those ultra poly modeling programs. Which one is better zbrush or mudbox? |

mudbox and zbrush are different beasts really, the actual sculpting side of both is pretty much the same, push/pull,smooth/move etc but mudbox has a very short learning curve, whereas Zbrush takes a little getting used to but its a massive piece of software that can do millions of creative things I'll probably never figure out
Yeah the lighting is a little old-school but it kinda works to me _________________

i like it a lot, but i don't like the colors that much, he is pink right now, when i see marines i always see them being deep red or dark blue or something like that... it is original though

looking much better! i like it, but maybe add different colours to different parts, his head could just be human like or grey/puple or whatever, but the armour could be in a different coulor, that way it doesn't seem so plantlike if you understand what i'm trying to say. Keep experimenting on the colors and textures!

Thanks for the suggestions but these Chaos Marines of Khorne are generally red n gold or just red so I think I'll stick with the usual colour scheme or the 40k nuts..erm fans will string me up
